Varianta is a learning portal. This page sets out what that means for how you should read our material, and — importantly — what this site is not.

Educational, not prescriptive

Everything we publish, from the sample lesson to the full course and the ebook, is meant to teach you methods: how to reason about randomness in game systems, how to compute expected tries, how to read a variance band. The maths is real and we stand behind it. How you apply it to your own game is a design decision only you can make, and results will differ from one project to the next. We can't promise a particular outcome for your build.

About the word “games” here

When Varianta talks about drop rates, loot tables and randomness, it means the mechanics of video games — the software kind, the ones designers and developers build. Nothing on this site is about money changing hands on the outcome of a game, and nothing here teaches, encourages or facilitates that. Our variance curves describe reward pacing and player experience, not money riding on a result. If you came looking for that, this isn't the place.

Accuracy and updates

We take care to get the formulas, the spreadsheets and the examples right, and we correct errors as we find them. Even so, teaching material can contain the occasional slip, and the tools you'll use — spreadsheet apps, engines, libraries — change over time. Treat the numbers as a model of reality, sanity-check them against your own data, and let us know if you spot something off.

External links and tools

Where we mention third-party software or point to outside resources, we do so because they're useful, not because we control or endorse everything about them. Their terms and behaviour are their own. Prices for the course and ebook are shown in Brazilian reais and may change; the price you're quoted at enrollment is the one that applies to your order.
